Game Narratives to Cinema Stories: Mortal Kombat in Conversation (Panel)
with Special Guest (in person) – Simon McQuoid (Director of Mortal Kombat, 2021)
With media forms converging across aesthetics, visual and voice cloning production software, audiences and access platforms, one of the most difficult things it seems is translating a game structure to a cinema translation…and it’s not as simple as it may seem.
Taming open-ended and 360° narrative forms into the frame and forward-facing work of cinema presents its own challenges – not in the least the fandom!
Hearing directly from feature film directors and games developers from Australia and overseas, this special session looks at the triumphs and tribulations in working across forms with intersecting characters, locations, technology and a torrent of vested interests from studios, publishers and of course the brutality or bouquets from audiences.
